We just got a card from the City of Lacey Water Utility in the mail that really has me baffled (well, not really). they now have an odd/even outdoor watering schedule going through the summer months.
This really isn't all that strange, many communities around the country implement something similar during droughts. The thing is that we aren't in a drought! We actually had above average precipitation this year and there is still a deeper than average snowpack.
What has me confused, is that that really annoying development to the south of us had to get approval from the water district, verifying that they had enough water to serve all those new houses. In fact, just along Marvin Road there are probably over 5,000 houses in the various developments out there. All these had to be approved by the water district!
We have been hosting BGT at CWI hosting for at least three years now, and they have finally succeeded in running us off.
For much of that time we were happy with their service, they would reply promptly whenever we would submit a trouble ticket. Their prices remained high for the amount of bandwith and disk space we were allocated, but as long as we were getting good service there wasn't much point in switching just to save a few bucks. Not to mention, we were still well within our bandwidth limits, so why tempt fate by moving to a different server.
Why the hell do people complain about SUVs without even taking a couple of minutes to consider that many of them, possibly even a majority of them, are used properly and in a way that higher mileage cars simply will not be able to replace.
Okay, there are some really good reasons to complain about the way that certain people use their SUVs. If all you do is drive it around town with one person in it 98% of the time, then you are being incredibly wasteful.
But the fact is that they were designed for a specific purpose, and when used for that purpose, they can be far more efficient than any Prius, and when you get outside the confines of the city, they tend to be used for those purposes a lot more often.
There really is some incredible irony that Sony is going through such incredibly stupid steps to try and protect their "Intellectual Property" when their most famous foray into the world of copyrights was when they won the BetaMax decision that allowed for Fair Use recording of programs off the air.
And now they are doing everything they can to keep the end user from being able to achieve anything similar without Sony getting to to install a rootkit on your system.
To top it all off, it also appears that their rootkit itself violates copyright through the use of LGPL code written by someone else without meeting the requirements of the license.
