Whoo Hoo! The first seed catalog of the season arrived today!
Okay, so it's only the Stokes seed catalog, and they tend a lot more towards the commercial grower and nursery market, but it still counts for something!
This is the sign that it is the start of the winter dreaming of next year garden season. A time for hibernating on the couch, covered with blankets, sipping hot chocolate and deciding on way too many different varieties to order.
Well, I would be hibernating except for the fact that my plan for this winter is to set up at least three more 18'x3' garden beds and two 24'x3' beds and turn two old boat trailer tents into cheap greenhouses. If I'm lucky I will finish half of that.
UPDATE: Okay, this is too cool, they have a beautiful purple carrot called Purple Haze. I'm going to have to get this. I guess I need to dig through and find enough different seeds to make it worth paying for the shipping.
Let's see, they have a few interesting chiles, but I prefer to support the smaller specialty companies for those.
They have this Prizewinner pumpkin wich will grow to 100 pounds so it is bigger than the normal Howden, but still movable, unlike the Atlantic Giant, but one packet of 10 seeds costs $7.75! I don't think I'm getting any of those this year. Autumn King goes up to 40 pounds, so that might be worth trying.
