Laurie just called with an interesting question. At the library they have 3 network printers, and basically what they want to do is load balance them, which I had never really though about doing with network printers.

Sure, it makes sense to do it with a print server and a bunch of printers connected to that server, but it had just never occured to me to try that with network capable printers.

Well, with a little searching, it appears that it shouldn't be all that hard to do using some chap old box with linux on it along with samba and cups. Samba to talk to the windoze clients and cups to do the load balancing. This should be a fun little project.
