Finally admitted to Evergreen!
I've been attending The Evergreen State College for a year now, and I finally became an admitted student today!
I'm sure that sounds odd, but they allow you to attend up to 8 credits worth of classes a quarter as an unadmitted student. The reason that I didn't apply for admission earlier has to do with the admission policy that you have to be in good standing at your previous school. Well, 25 years ago I attended the local Junior College and achieved the distinction of making it to academic probation. Oops.
I almost didn't make it in this time, because I am not up to 40 transferable credits, which means that I need my high school diploma or a GED. But I don't have either of those, I took the California High School Proficiency Exam, which is the California equivalent of the GED for those between 16 and 18. I asked several of the admissions counselors about it, but I never got a satisfactory answer. They basically told me to "just apply", so I did.
When it came time to have my credentials reviewed I was told that it didn't qualify, and I objected. I could get into Berkeley, Cal Tech or Stanford with it, but not Evergreen with its 97% admissions rate!?!?
They decided to accept it in my case because of bad advising, but they aren't going to change their policy. It's a shame, but at least they accepted mine.
