Amish Freindship Bread
What is the point to Amish Friendship Bread?
You make a sourdough starter, mix and feed it for 8 days, then you make a frigging quickbread with it?!?!
Not to mention, the one we got recently seemed like a rather disgusting idea if we had followed the directions from the start. White flour, milk mixed in to the starter, add pudding mix. Not very friendly if you ask me.
Animal products such as the milk and eggs should only be added right before the final mixing for the bread or cake, not in the starter.
We went with spelt flour instead of white, rice milk instead of cow milk, and mushed bananas instead of pudding mix.
I have to admit that the bread turned out tasty, but I could have mad up something better, with much less work, using my regular sourdough starter.
This reminds me of all the "sourdough" recipes going around now that call for adding dried sourdough starter for the flavor, and using cultured yeast for the rising. It seems like a waste.
